Data Center Migration
What?
To migrate client’s computing processing for its 7 hospitals, 54 clinics, and 22,000 employees, the project team included 340 IT staff and additional external consultants, and vendor employees.
Notable challenges overcome:
- Unachievable Timelines – Hardware migration vendor was pushing a timeline that client could not be met. Oakman Consulting created an achievable plan based on bottom-up input from staff that would perform the work, and negotiated an achievable timeline with client leadership and completed the migration in 12 weekend events without disrupting medical operations.
- Communications with system users – Client lacked communication channels to directly reach client’s systems users en masse, real-time. To overcome this limitation, the project created electronic communication channels that notified application users of: a) planned outage start time of each application, and b) actual resumption of availability.
Project communications to system users became a model for client’s future IT project communications.
